Carnaby’s Cockatoo Café

Picture
Friends, we need your help. The beautiful Carnaby’s Cockatoos are under threat. Now classified as an endangered species, these lovely birds are suffering habitat loss due to urban development and climate change.

But there is an answer. If every one of us planted one or two cockatoo friendly plants in our gardens there would dozens of Carnaby’s Cafés in each area. This would not only help the cockatoos it would provide habitat and food for many other native species too.

Below are some of the Cocky’s favourite plants. Don’t worry if you don’t have a large garden, there are a couple of smallish shrubs that you can plant if you’d like to contribute. As a bonus, all the plants mentioned are enthusiastic flowerers, which will not only add beauty to your garden but keep the bees happy too.

Even better, all of these plants are hardy, drought tolerant and can be purchased cheaply as tube stock from tree nurseries. If your local nursery doesn’t stock them we are happy to help. Contact Sustainable Equitation.

It would be a tragedy if one day the Carnaby’s Cockatoos were added to the list of extinct Australian bird and animal species, particularly as it is so easy for us to make a difference. We’re all in this together – together let’s help the Carnaby’s Cockatoos.
